From sci-fi effects to sun flare, this app lets you add creative flares to your images.

Add (somewhat) realistic light and shadow effects. I've seen this used very effectively, but there's definitely an art to it.

Add rippllng water effects to your images.

A bit much on its own, but can be every effective when used as part of your app-stacking.

Many photos begin and end here! Instantly clears otherwise muddy photos.

Just what it says--lets you add different blurs (bokeh) to your images.

This creates some interesting effects with good controls. Again can be over-powering on its own (and obvious that the photo was "Tangled") but can be very creative as part of your app-stacking.

When I want that painterly look, this is the first stop after Snapseed.

This is my go-to app when students are creating comics in Comic Life.

Free. If you have only one photography app, this should be it. Powerful, yet easy to use, and has saved many shots I thought were past saving!

A newish editing app. Supports layers, masking, etc.

Something of a one trick pony, but what a trick. Cropped your background too close to the subject when shooting? Anti-crop lets you extend the area. Works best with solid backgrounds.

Free. Another must-have. Have a pesky lightpole or wires in the way of an otherwise perfect shot? This is how you remove them!

Solid, straight-forward photo& video editing.

A lot of people swear by this app for photo editing. Also has good cloning and retouching capabilities.

Another much-used app. I don't like it, because the editing isn't "real time", but it's worth it for one specific feature: if you happen to use an app that degrades your pixels, Filterstorm lets you resize it.

I never use this, to be honest. It offers basic cropping and a selection of frames. Other than that it's just a bunch of filters with only the most basic controls. But it's Adobe, it's Photoshop, and it's free, so here it is. There's a paid version that offers more, but I've read some bad reviews so haven't checked it out.

Easy-to-use app for superimposing and masking images with the usual Photoshop-style blend modes. I use this far more than Superimpose.

Another blending/masking app. A few more controls than Blender, and some people prefer it.

Combines the grunge and painterly looks.

I love this app! Lets you add some great effects to your images.

I want to love this app. In the hands of a master, it can do amazing things. It is far from intuitive, however, and I've really struggled trying to figure it out.
