CONNECT BLOCKS | October, November, December

In addition to individual meetings, Ms. Michelle (and Ms. Archbold) are working with the seniors during CONNECT BLOCKS over the next few months to support students in completing their university college applications. Students are encouraged to attend and use this focus time to complete their applications.

Students are being reminded to send THEIR college essays and applications for a final review before submitting. We would appreciate it if parents could also support us by reminding them.

NOVEMBER CONNECT BLOCKS
During the next round of Connect Blocks, we are delivering a Refresher Course on Managing Stress & Anxiety, specifically designed for seniors, to help them navigate the challenges of the upcoming months. The slides will be shared with the seniors via Microsoft Teams for easy access and reference. This session aims to provide practical tools and strategies to support mental well-being during this time.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNSELING

Key Application Reminders

REMINDER FOR SENIORS: The Grade 12 counselors will not be available over the winter break (December 12 - January 5). They have worked closely with your child to ensure they have completed their university applications before December 12. If there are any emergencies over the break, please have your child reach out to the head of department, Ms. Michelle, on Teams.

1. Sending Test Scores

For test scores to be considered official, they must be sent directly from the testing organization. However, please verify whether universities require these scores now or later, as this information is typically available on their portals or websites.

2. Regular Applications Deadline

For applications due around the winter holiday break (e.g., January 1), we strongly encourage students to meet our internal WAB deadline of December 11, 2025. By this date, students should have completed most of their application materials (though submission is not required yet). We are actively supporting your child to ensure they meet this timeline through Connect Blocks.

3. ED Binding Contract (US Applications)

  • This contract requires signatures from both the parent and the student.
  • The form is electronic and generated within the Common Application.
  • Counselors will also sign the form via MaiaLearning.

4. Financial Statement (International Students)

  • Some US universities may request proof of finances during the application process.
  • Please prepare this documentation for both early and regular decision rounds.
  • If you have any questions, feel free to email your child’s counselor for assistance.

5. UPDATING COUNSELOR

  • Students are reminded to update their counselor with any news they receive from universities so we can guide and assist them with their next steps.

Mētō Platform
Students often lack the information they need to find universities that are a good fit.
Mētō has reimagined this process:What if students were approached by good‑fit universities?

This week, our seniors are getting on the Mētō platform. Mētō is a free service that reverses the university search process for our students. Mētō shares the student's profile with top universities around the world, including Vanderbilt, Boston University, Imperial College London, U of Toronto, UBC, IE University, and many more.
When a university is interested in the student's profile, a representative from the admissions team will personally reach out and invite the student to apply. Often, this will be the person who makes a decision on the student's application.

To learn more about Mētō, please check out their website!

TESTING INFO

Testing Updates at WAB: WAB provides a robust suite of on-campus testing options, including SAT, PSAT, and IB exams, reflecting the assessments most relevant to our high school learners.

From this year onwards, WAB will no longer serve as an ACT test center. This follows several years of very low student demand and recent changes in ACT’s technical and facility requirements. In recent years, demand for the ACT across Beijing has declined, and students who choose to take the ACT typically do so while in the United States over summer or school breaks.

As always, our counseling team is available to help students decide which assessments best match their university plans.
****************
The SAT can only be taken by Grade 11 & 12 WAB students. Please see below for more information, including test dates.

*IMPORTANT: Students must have credit card information on hand during registration.

Registration Is Now Open for the SAT Test Administrations. PLEASE DO NOT SHARE TEST CENTER CODE EXTERNALLY, as WAB is a closed test center.
