WELCOME BACK Class of 2026

Subject: Grade 12 Future Planning Meetings – Starting

Starting this week, the Grade 12 counselors will begin scheduling individual meetings with seniors to discuss and plan for their post-secondary aspirations. These meetings are a vital part of our students' journey, helping them clarify goals, explore options, and take actionable steps toward their future.

Please note that meetings may occur during class time. Seniors know that if a meeting conflicts with an assessment or major project, academic responsibilities take priority, and they should reschedule with their counselor accordingly.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to join these meetings, so please ask them to share their appointment time with you. If you would like to attend via Team Meet, please let the assigned counselor know and we can send a link.

Looking forward to a strong senior year!

Ms. Archbold & Ms. Michelle

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNSELING UNITS

Last school year, we had already delivered the five units. Please note that each unit has a deliverable, and students should follow along with the units based on their timeline. We encourage you as parents to discuss the units with them at home.

UNIT ONE: "TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF":
Students engaged in an exercise to help them think about who they are and what their narratives might be. This first unit is part of our university college counseling curriculum. Students were also asked to upload their notes to MaiaDrive and practice conducting interviews with a friend.

UNIT TWO: RESEARCHING SCHOOLS:
This is due Sept 9
Students have begun this unit's university/college/gap year research phase. They will be using MaiaLearning and adding schools to their Considering List. In Teams (Gr11 Mentor  University College Channel), they will find country-specific resources that will support them in this journey.

UNIT THREE: ACTIVITIES & RESUME
Students should complete this at the end of May – due to the HS Counselor
In this unit, students are asked to reflect on their current activities, projects, and services they are doing in and outside of WAB. They should use the templates shared by their counselors. Students who are not completing the US activities template should create a resume using CANVA. Once complete, they should send it to their counselor for feedback. This unit draft is due by MAY.  Students should use the Connect block to work on this.

UNIT FOUR: Letter of Recommendation (LOR)
Students should complete before June ✅ DONE
In this unit, students learned about the importance of the LORs in their applications and what their next steps are in this process. After students meet with their WAB HS counselor to identify their teachers to support them in writing their LOR, students will need to complete a Starter Questionnaire for each teacher’s LOR request. They should begin this process in April and complete it by June 18 (end of the school year).

UNIT FIVE: PERSONAL STORY/STATEMENT
Students should complete this over the summer and submit the first draft in the first week of school
In this unit, the students learned about the different types of essays, statements, and letters of motivation. The personal statement is a key component of the student's application, serving as their chance to authentically showase who they are. Plesae note that we expect drafts of the first week back. Students should be spending their summer drafting their essays.
