About ALP

Dear parents of Grades 6-10 students,

WAB Middle School offers an After-school Language Program (ALP) to Grades 6 to 10 students who are interested in taking an additional language course during the after-school and lunch hours. The language choices are:

· Chinese Language and Literature

· Chinese Language Acquisition

· French Language Acquisition

· Spanish Language Acquisition

These classes are taught at lunch and after school per week. These courses are offered based on teacher availability and sufficient enrollment, and they are taught by qualified WAB teachers. Students are expected to attend both sessions every week for the entire school year and follow full WAB program requirements. Students may not enroll in two of the same Language Acquisition classes (Spanish, French or Chinese Language Acquisition can be taken only once -- either during the regular program or during ALP).

Most ALP classes take place on Mondays from 3:30-5:30 pm and Thursdays from 12:05-12:45 pm (lunchtime), and only ALP Spanish Phase 2 class and ALP French Phase 2 class take place on Tuesdays from 12:05-12:45 pm (lunchtime) and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30 pm, starting the second full week of school.

If your child/children join an ALP class, they are not eligible for WABX activities/sports that is scheduled on the same day/time. Student placement meetings take place during the first full week of school.

In the school year 2025-2026, students will meet with the language teachers for placement and class information from 12:05-12:45 pm on Wednesday 27 August, and/or Thursday 28 August, in rooms MS5205 for Chinese | MS5201 for French | MS5202 for Spanish. New students might need to have their placement tests.

To enroll, please sign up for your child/children via SchoolsBuddy between 8 am Friday 22 August to 11 pm Tuesday 26 August. Please note that each class has a maximum of 22 students. The first to register will have the first access to seats in these classes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Lynn Xing in the MS Languages Department or MS Vice Principal Huiman Cheng.
