Global Citizenship at WAB

WAB's Definition of Global Citizenship

At WAB we believe that we are all global citizens and our decisions today impact future generations. A successful global citizen is aware of and seeks to understand pressing global issues, furthers social justice, respects and engages with diverse cultures and identities, lives in harmony with nature, and recognizes a responsibility to take action in local and global contexts.

Global Citizenship at WAB encompasses:

Action and Community Engagement
Taking principled action based on knowledge and understanding to make positive changes in local and global communities. Community engagement at WAB is an intentional, reflective, curricular process fostering authentic, reciprocal, and sustainable relationships and actions that benefit all.

Reciprocal Community Partnerships
Collaborative relationships between WAB and the community where all parties benefit and contribute in meaningful ways. In these partnerships, each participant shares resources, knowledge, and support, with an emphasis on mutual respect and equity.

Intercultural Understanding
The ability to recognize, respect, and appreciate cultural differences and similarities between people from diverse backgrounds. At WAB, this includes valuing multilingualism as a tool for inclusion and fostering effective communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution in multicultural settings.

Environmental Sustainability
Developing knowledge, values, and skills to care for the environment and create sustainable solutions for current and future generations.

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-Racism & Social Justice (I-DEAS)
Actively working to create a more just and equitable world through understanding and addressing systems of privilege and oppression.

Strategy 2022+

Our Global Citizenship initiatives directly support WAB's strategic priorities:

  1. WAB Alumni will be agents of sustainable and ethical approaches to living and learning.
Through our Global Citizenship program, students develop the knowledge, skills, and mindsets to address complex challenges in ethical and sustainable ways.
  2. WAB Alumni will be champions of Inclusion through Diversity, Equity, Anti-Racism & Social Justice (I-DEAS).
Our approach to Global Citizenship actively promotes understanding and action around creating more just and equitable communities.
