Activity 1: Careers Intelligence

Use the links above to explore some of the biggest trends and predictions for 2025-2030. 

You can put the pdf into an AI model and ask it some questions, but you must craft a careful prompt and critically evaluate the responses. 

Reflective questions - when you have done som research, discuss with your group: 

  1. What are some opportunities that might open up for me in the future? 
  2. What are some skills that I have as strengths that will help me? 
  3. What are some skills that I will need to develop further? How? 
  4. What have I learned from reading these resources that might help me in applications and interviews, to show that I am informed about the impacts of AI on the future of work? 

 

Activity 2: Using AI to Help Careers Research

Resources To Use: 

  • You need an internet-connected AI tool. 
  • For example: Perplexity, ChatGPT research or DeepSeek with research.

  • Edit the highlighted parts and make any other edits you need. 
  • This ICES prompt structure gives better outputs. 
  • Don't treat AI tools like simple Google Searches. 

<Identity> I am a Grade 12 student in in an International Baccaluareate school and I am preparing for my careers research and university applications. I am interested in studying [SUBJECT/CAREER] in [COUNTRY(IES)]. You are an expert careers and industry analyst who is helping me to find information on how my chosen area is changing and how I can prepare.

<Commands> Use internet resesarch and reliable resources to create a summary of how my chosen field is changing, including how AI is being used in the field, what new opportunities and courses are coming and how industry is adapting. Follow up this research with analysis of the technical skills, knowledge and non-technical skills that I can develop or highlight in my applications that will help me be successful. Include a further section that correlates these skills with those developed by an IB graduate. Suggest further research I can do to help me prepare and to find new ideas or opportunities related to my areas of interest.

<Explanation> The results must be accurate, current and linked to reliable sources that I can check and evaluate. It must be in a clear format. It must be presented in a factual, optimistic and constructive way. You must help me use this information to think clearly about how I can highlight my personal strengths and interests and show how I am knowledgeable and ready for the changes of the future, so that I can flourish in this career. 

<Structure> Present the results in the following sections:

  • Research on how AI is impacting my chosen career, including challenges and new opportunities.
  • Research on the technical skills and knowledge that will be useful in this career pathway.
  • Research on the non-technical (e.g. interpersonal skills) that will be useful in this career pathway.
  • Alignment between this research and the attributes of a successful IB Diploma Students.
  • An extensive list of new opportunities, jobs and career pathways in my area of interest, with evidence.
  • An aligned list of university courses that can help me be successful in this pathway, with links.
  • Suggestions for actions I can take and how I can highlight my personal skills in my applications.

In each section give a summary of research, followed-up with a series of bullet points of important information and then some action points.

 

Evaluation

  • Read and critically evaluate the response given by the AI. 
  • Check the sources provided by the AI - are they reliable? Open and read the sources you find interesting. 
  • Make notes: what are some opportunities and skills related to your chosen field of study that might be impacted by AI?
