Central Idea:
  • Artists create Visual Diaries to explore materials, build technique and tell their stories.
Lines of Inquiry:
  • The processes used to create art
  • Executing an idea through process to end product/exhibition
Essential Questions:
  • How can we document our art ideas and explorations?
  • How can we use a visual diary in the creative process?
  • How can we add layers to our work to create depth and interest?
Central Idea:
  • Art is a visual language that can be used to communicate ideas.
Lines of Inquiry:
  • Use of tone or value to give depth and dimension to compositions
  • Drawing and painting techniques
Essential Questions:
  • Why is drawing important?
  • How can we learn to improve our drawing?
  • Do all artists draw or study drawing?
  • What techniques can we use to make our work look more realistic?
Central Idea:
  • The work of artists can inspire and challenge us to take action.
Lines of Inquiry:
  • Global issues 
  • Artists who use their work as a form of action-taking
Essential Questions:
  • How might art-making be a form of action taking?
  • What re the challenges and advantages of creating artwork collaboratively within large groups?
Central Idea:
  • Artists follow a process to create a print edition.
Lines of Inquiry:
  • The history and use of print making
  • Basic printmaking techniques
Essential Questions:
  • What is the history of print making?
  • What kinds of lines work best for print making?
Central Idea:
  • Communities produce goods to meet different needs.
Lines of Inquiry:
  • How clay had been used throughout history
  • The different techniques we can use to manipulate clay
Essential Questions:
  • What have been some of the uses of clay throughout history?
  • What skills do we need to be able to manipulate clay?
