Professional Growth at WAB: WAB Labs & Peer Learning

WAB Labs: WAB Teachers Learning Together

WAB Labs are informal community learning experiences - by WAB Faculty for WAB Faculty

WAB Labs can be hosted by anyone and can take many forms. They do not need to be workshops (though it can be if you want to). WAB Labs could be:

  • Showcasing learning in your class
  • Book/chapter/article discussions
  • Sharing professional learning
  • Finding or using new resources
  • Practicing or learning new tech tools or teaching strategies

See the Wednesday meetings schedule and updates on Teams to find out when the next WAB Labs are on.

Peer Observations

Often the best professional learning comes from observing our peers in action. WAB has excellent teachers, with diverse approaches to teaching and learning. For some peer-observation protocols, see below:

  • Visits are invitational. Make an agreement on how and when you will visit.
  • Go empty-handed. Don’t bring a laptop or notepad (it looks evaluative); be fully present.
  • Visits are non-judgmental. They are for your learning, not evaluation of peers.
  • Focus on student learning. Try to focus on what students are doing and thinking.
  • Give appreciation. Immediately thank your peer with positive noticings.
