Research in the Personal Project

Research Process: Information and Media Literacies

Research is a key aspect of the personal project and is applied in the process of identifying learning and product goals and developing success criteria for the product in particular. Students should organize their research carefully. They should select from a wide range of sources and evaluate sources to ensure they are of high quality, reliable, useful and varied. Sources should be documented in a Bibliography submitted with the report. They should document evidence of research in their Process Journal on MyTime throughout the project.

Information literacy

As a key ATL skill area, information literacy is supported by activities including:

  • developing lines of inquiry
  • constructing an annotated bibliography
  • completing source evaluation
  • developing research questions and a research plan
  • analysis of similar or existing projects

Research plans may vary, depending on the topic of the project but can include:

  • search strategies for library or online resources
  • resource summaries
  • data collection and analysis methods
