Personal Project: Mentor Responsibilities

Personal Project information and support for teachers and students

Roles of the Mentor

Mentors

Grade 10 Mentors support students, together with supervisors, but often more at a group level. Because they meet with students daily and have access to their Process Journal and planning, they are able to "take a pulse" of how the student is progressing and communicate if students fall behind or need more targeted support in terms of self-management or with their supervisor.

Specific responsibilities of mentors include:

  • Introduce information about P2 process posted on Teams and lead short activities during mentor time
  • Explain how to use MyTime for documenting process (Process Journal)
  • Check students progress against WAB's timeline and keep students aware and meeting key deadlines
  • Guide students to reflect on overall self-management skills as applied to the process
  • Support students in exhibition planning
  • Moderate reports and help with standardization
  • Support and check students submission of planning work MyTime and report documents to MS Teams

Approaches to Learning

As all teachers to, mentors have the opportunity to help students reflect on their holistic development across all approaches to learning skill areas and help students set personal targets both through their project and in other ways. Supervisors are, to a certain extent, ATL skills development coaches and focus heavily on supporting students in terms of Self-Management and Research skill areas.
