Checking that Success Criteria are "SMART" Goals

Students can use the framework below to evaluate the success criteria they have identified and ensure they are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-based (SMART):

Aspect

Description of Goals in relation to Aspect

Y / N ?

S

Specific:

  • What do I want to do?
  • Why do I want to do it?
  • Who is involved?
  • Where am I going to achieve the goal?
  • What resources do I need?

M

Measurable:

  • How will I know if the goal has been achieved?
  • What indicators can be measured or are visible to determine it has been achieved?

A

Achievable:

  • How will I achieve my goal?
  • What limitations may be faced?
  • Why is the goal realistic?

R

Relevant

  • Why is the goal important?
  • What need is driving the goal?

T

Time-based

  • Can the goal be achieved within a timeframe established?
  • How will it be achieved within the timeframe?
